Carrot Bell pepper soup or B for Bell pepper carrot soup

No. I am not going to continue this series till Z. It is just a coincidence that my dish starts with B. After trying low fat Mysore pak(Besan Burfi) which turned out to be a disaster, I lost the mood to make sweets for diwali. Though it was low fat, I felt guilty having them cause it had 2 tbsp of ghee and loads of sugar(yeah I tried making mysore pak with 2 tbsp of ghee and no wonder it became a halwa!). To compensate for the intake of mysore pak, I walked, walked and walked 3 miles and ended up making Carrot bell pepper soup for dinner by following Laavanya's Carrot coriander soup recipe.

I didn't have coriander leaves, so I substituted it with green bell pepper(1/4 cup). I also added little milk in the end to make it extra creamy. Otherwise I followed the same method. I am a soup fan and I liked this one very much!

Note: Adding more than 1/2 tsp of sambar powder will make the soup spicy.

  1. oh, i have to try this one. i've never had soup with carrots yet.

i am laughing at your mysorepak story. don't get mad at me..it just reminded me of my friend's disaster with less ghee. hers was hard like a rock that her husband asked her if she was planning to build houses with them ;-)

  7. I'm not really much of a soup fa, though I've had carrot soup. I love bell peppers, so I'm sure this would be good.
Btw, you just can't make mysorepak without lots of ghee. Anything else would probably be burfi or fudge.:)

  13. I tell you.. this Diwali is killing me.. I made badam halwa, coconut burfi and 7 cups so far and these boxes of sweets lying around and me trying not to eat them is rather daunting. Can't wait to distribute them to friends so there won't be much to tempt me :)

The carrot bell pepper soup looks so good. I must remember to try this combination next time.

  18. Mahimaa, I have done Mysore Pak many times, instead of ghee/ butter - you could add low cal veg oil as low fat substitutes (again generous/ same amt you would have added ghee/butter.) it comes out very well

  19. forgot to add this, the lighter oils (low fat - eg..mazola) don't smell/taste of oil in mysore pak and also you can use butter spray (0 fat - like PAM ), and add your original 2 tbsp butter/ghee jus before you are going to pour the mixture.
